The
Collaboration Space at Warner Research is designed to be
that office. A shared office and high-tech environment,
the goal is to provide a productive work environment with
good light, lots of space, fast internet connections, direct
phone lines. It’s a friendly and energizing environment.
Large
Common Spaces
Our space was designed to be inefficient. We’ve wasted
lots of space. Hallways are wider than they need to be.
The kitchen is big and we spent a lot more on it than we
could justify. The conference room is big, with very high
ceilings. This kind of layout makes you feel good, and this
leads to good work. We compensate for the inefficiency downstairs
with smaller offices and workstations in the upstairs loft.
Convertible
Kitchen / Meeting Space
The kitchen space has a removable countertop that
rolls on wheels. This lets you combine the kitchen and part
of the office to create a space where you can present to
50 people. We intend to use this space for presentations
for both non-profit and for-profit activities.
T1
Internet Access
We have shared T1 internet access with DSL backup that provides
service for Warner Research and a few other clients in this
building. We also have our own 256K dedicated internet connection.
Both circuits provide fixed IP addresses, so you can host
your own servers. (As long as traffic to them isn’t
too heavy, and some additional charges may apply if you
run a server.)
Wireless
802.11b Service
We have a wireless hub in the building that lets you roam
anywhere in the building with good performance. We also
have a full wired 100 Mbit Ethernet, fully switched. So
you can get a full 100Mbit performance between machines,
or about 4Mbit over the wireless connection. The wireless
system is secured to each receiver so no one outside the
building can gain access to the network.
Direct
Inward Dial Phone System
We have a phone system that supports direct inward dialing.
This means you get your own phone number at your desk. You
can use a standard analog phone, or you can connect a multi-line
Panasonic digital office phone.
Shared
Server with Daily Backups
I always hated the issue of managing backups, so we have
a central server that you can use to store files. The server
has Raid Disk Array, which means that all data is duplicated
on the disks and a disk failure will not cause any loss
of data. Also, the server has a large tape drive, and a
full backup is made every night, with at least ten days’
prior work saved.
Wildfire
Service
Wildfire is an electronic assistant that uses speech recognition
to handle your phone life. Wildfire has a directory of 150
people, recognizes your incoming callers and says “oh
hi.” She can route calls, take messages, and even
create conference calls on the fly. We don’t have
a separate voice mail system here. Instead you can use your
cell phone’s voice mail, or get a Wildfire account.
Parking
We have ten parking spaces that come with our space. Some
will be available to rent on a monthly basis.
